Hughes, Robert Reginald

Robert Reginald was born in Buckley 2nd April 1896. In 1911 the family was living at Daisy Hill: father David Hughes a tilemaker, mother Emily, Samuel Percy, Robert Reginald age 15 a grocer’s assistant, Stella May, Veda Margaret, and James Trevor.

Robert Reginald (“Reg”) Hughes was the son of David and Emily Hughes of 116 Brunswick Road. Robert Reginald was buried at St. Matthew’s on 21st December 1920 and was granted a Commonwealth War Graves Commission memorial showing that he had served in the 10th Btn., The King’s (Liverpool) Regiment. Robert Reginald was not originally listed on the Hawkesbury Memorial but was added in 2020.

From his Service record (found under Reginald Hughes, 7054), Reginald attested 25th January 1916. He requested to join the Royal Army Medical Corps but he was assigned to the Liverpool Scottish. He was age 19 years, 9 months and gave occupation grocer manager with W. H Farley of Mold. He was unmarried with no children and his next of kin was his mother, Emily Hughes. He served in Britain 5th May 1916 to 14th September 1916, and then in France until 19th August 1917 when he was wounded by a rifle bullet in the neck and chest penetrating the lung. He was discharged 7th January 1918.

Also Veda Margaret Hughes born 7 Jan 1900 died July 18 1926

David Hughes of Brunswick Road died in 1931. Emily Jane Hughes died in 1962 age 92.
