The name Edwin Leonard is inscribed on the 1st panel of the WW2 War Memorial at Hawarden, but try as I might I cannot find a credible record that fits, I have found an Edwin Leonard on the 1939 National Register which was taken on the 29th September 1939. He was born in 1927 and was “At School,” his address was in Hawarden, Wihsholme” Aston Hall, living with his parents, John & Clara LEONARD, 2 sisters and a brother, I think he would have been too young to be in the war.
He is not on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission database to my knowledge.
However on the Right Column next to steps (Side) is written this name:- Leonard Edwin PRICE Flight Sergeant R.A.F. 508981 died 3rd September 1943 Buried at Tarporley (St. Helen) Churchyard, Location: Cheshire, United Kingdom (Grave 127.)
Now I know this doesn’t prove anything, except that it may be that the family put his name forward for the original Plaque, but either the family or friend who put his name forward didn’t complete the listing or perhaps it was a clerical error on the part of the Artisan who carved the names. It makes me feel there is a story here, as the family may have seen the wrong name and then asked for his name to be added, as many were later, they are all on the curbs of the columns. Leonard Edwin Price is there, please click on the link to read his story.
If anyone has any idea who this serviceman was, please get in touch as I would hate to think he is forgotten.
