Evan Jones was born in Rhyl, Flintshire in 1877.
His parents were Evan Jones, a Stone Mason and Sarah Jones. The family lived at 87 Wellington Road, Rhyl, Flintshire.
In 1897 he married Elizabeth and they lived at 2 Salem Terrace, West Street, Rhyl.
The 1901 Census shows that Evan Jones, aged 24 was employed by Rhyl Gas Works as a Gas Stoker. His wife Elizabeth Jones aged 27 and their three children – William Jones aged 3, Evan Jones aged 1 and John Jones aged 6 months. They also had an adopted daughter Catherine J Jones, who was aged 13 years. They later had two more children, George and Sarah Ellen.
On Friday 16 April 1915, Evan enlisted at the Recruitment Centre, Rhyl with 5th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers. On Sunday 21 May 1916 he embarked HMT Megantic at Devonport and arrived in Alexandria on Friday 30 June 1916. On Monday 26 March 1917 he was wounded during the Battle of Gaza and later died at No.1 Hospital Train, Egypt.
He is also remembered on a Remembrance Plaque at The Royal Alexandra Hospital, Marine Drive, Rhyl, Flintshire and on The North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, North Wales.
There is no Flintshire Roll of Honour card for him at the County Archives Office, Hawarden, Flintshire.
