Evan Henry Edwards was born in Liverpool, Lancashire on 24 September 1897.  His mother was Miriam Edwards, who was employed as a Domestic Servant in Liverpool.  There is no record of who is father was.

The 1901 Census shows that Evan, who was three years of age lived with his Uncle, Aunt and Cousins at 9 West Street, Rhyl, Flintshire.  The head of the family was Owen Edwards aged 36, who was employed as a Bricklayer.  His wife Sarah Jane Edwards aged 34 and their three children -Lewis Thomas Edwards aged 10, Sarah Elizabeth Edwards aged 8 and John Owen Williams aged 11 months.

The 1911 Census tells us that the family have moved to 189 Wellington Road, Rhyl, Flintshire. There are two additions to the family Gladys Myfanwy Edwards aged 7 and Blodwen Edwards aged 5 years.  Lewis Thomas Edwards who is now 20, is employed as a Labourer and Sarah Elizabeth Edwards who is 18, is employed as a Domestic Servant. Evan Henry Edwards who is 13, is at school. He attended two local schools the Wellington Road School and Rhyl National School, Clwyd Street, Rhyl.

Evan enlisted as a soldier with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in Rhyl.

Flintshire County Herald – Friday 30 March 1917.  Royal Welsh Fusiliers Casualties –  The family have been notified of the death in action of Private 17649 Evan Edwards. 

On 8 June 1917 a payment of £2.16s.0d was made by the War Office to Sarah Elizabeth Edwards, these being monies owed to her cousin Evan.  On 12 January 1920 a War Gratuity payment of £10.0s 0d was also made to her.

He is also remembered on The North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, North Wales and on a Remembrance Plaque at The Royal Alexandra Hospital, Marine Drive, Rhyl, Flintshire.
