John (Jack) Parry

Gunner John (Jack) Parry, 1468724, Royal Artillery, was the son of John and Polly Parry, of Lane End; husband of Frances Parry and father of Hilary and Clifford of 51 Nant Mawr Crescent. He died 9 March 1942, age 25, and is remembered on the Tripoli War Cemetery, Libya.

John (Jack) Parry was born 18 May, 1916 at 3 Garden Side, Buckley, the son of Polly Aston and John James Parry of Buckley.  In 1939 John married Frances Davies of Nant Mawr Crescent. They had two children Hilary and Clifford. Frances was the sister of William Davies.

John (Jack) Parry served with his brother-in-law, William in the 76 Anti-Tank Regiment of the Royal Artillery. While serving in Egypt, William was told that everyone had to leave the area. He knew that John was not far away so he went in a lorry to get him, but as they were leaving the area they hit a mine. William died instantly on 22nd January 1942. John was badly injured and was taken on a hospital ship to Tripoli where he died from his injuries 9th March 1942. John is buried in the Tripoli War Cemetery, Libya and William is memorialised on the El Alamein Memorial, Egypt.
