James Alexander MacLean is also remembered on the LLanasa Page of flintshirewarmemorials.com:-

“All we know so far about this man is from an index card in The Flintshire Roll of Honour at The County Record office in Hawarden. His card is filed with the Gronant cards. It gives the address Terfyn Nr Prestatyn. It says he had been awarded the Military Medal. He had ‘died’. There is a note that says ‘Cannot trace family. Left. Surrey’.The card was signed on 18th September 1919 by K Roberts who signed all the Gronant cards.”

James Alexander Maclean is a bit of an enigma!

I looked in the Parish Registers today for any marriage, also the Absent Voters List for 1918, although he could have died in 1914, bless him, I started to look in the Papers at the end of my time there, but then realised that I would have to start in late 1914, so it will take weeks, also looked in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers Book of Soldiers died in the Great War Volume 28 for a M(a)cLean who might have been in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, but there was only one with the wrong christian name and he was from Liverpool.

I also looked in the Monumental Inscriptions Book for Gorsedd and Holywell for a M(a)cLean in case someone in the family had died, other than James to see if there was an address.   I have also manually gone through the villages on the 1901 censuses to see if he had been transcribed wrongly by Ancestry.

I contacted the Invision 1914-1918 Forum to see if they could cast any light on him, seeing as he had won the Military Medal, but that also drew a blank.
