Williams, John Henry

John Henry Williams was born 1888 in Ysceifiog. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Williams, of Voel Gaer, Bodfari.

The 1911 census  records John Henry living with his family at Voel Gaer, Bodfari. Head of the household was John Williams who was 49. He was born in LlanfairPG in Anglesey. He was a ‘Ganger Platelayer’ working for a railway company.  His wife of 12 years was Elizabeth. She had been born in Cwm, Flintshire. (She was his second wife as his first wife – also Elizabeth – had died at the age of 32).  The two eldest children listed were from that first marriage. John Henry was 23 and worked as a ‘Farm Servant Horses’. William was 15. The younger three were from the second marriage. Peter Thomas was 11, Margaret S was 9 and Robert H was 7.

John Henry enlisted at Llangollen in early 1916.

Private 2249 John Henry Williams, 1st Battalion, Welsh Guards. was 29 years of age when he died of wounds. He was the son of John Williams of Voel Gaer, Bodfari, Near Denbigh. He he listed on the Bodfari memorial and buried at Grove Town Cemetery, Meaulte, France. The Welsh Guards was formed on 26th February 1915, by Royal Warrant of King George V.
