Lloyd, George

 George Lloyd was born in Prescott, Lancashire during 1895.

The 1911 Census states that he lived with his widowed mother Jane Lloyd at 2 Pierce’s Row, Bagillt, Flintshire.   His father James Lloyd had died some years previously.   George Lloyd who was 15 years of age was employed in Bettisfield Colliery, Bagillt.

He enlisted in Norwich as a Private with the Essex Regiment in 1915. He was killed in Action on Friday 23rd August 1918, during the Battle of the Somme, aged 23 years.

On 21 December 1918 a payment of £4.1s.8d was made by the War Office to Mrs Jane Lloyd, this being monies owed to her son George. Two further payments which are recorded as War Gratiuties were made to her – 3 December 1919 the sum of £3.0s.0d and on 23 June 1920 the sum of £6.10s.0d.

He is also remembered on The North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, North Wales.

There is a Flintshire Roll of Honour Card for him at the County Archives Office, Hawarden, which was completed on 8 September 1919 by his mother, Jane.
