Wilfred Jones was born during 1898 at Bagillt, Flintshire.

The 1911 Census tells us that the family at that time lived at Hillside, Tophill, Bagillt, Flintshire.  The head of the family was Edward Jones aged 52, a Plate Layer employed at Bettisfield Colliery.  His wife was  Susannah aged 49 and their 7 (seven) children  were,  Arthur Jones aged 23, a Cotton Dyer, Maud Jones aged 18, a Nurse, Annie Jones aged 17, who was also a Nurse, Stephen Wilfred Jones aged 14, Martha Jones aged 11, Edith Olwen Jones aged 8 and Dorothy Jones aged 6 years.

Wilfred enlisted as a Private in the 15th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers on 3 January 1917.  He embarked at Southampton for France on 23 May 1917. He was reported missing believed killed in action on Tuesday 31st July 1917 during the 3rd Battle of Ypres.

On 26 September 1918 a payment of £1.8s.11d was made by the War Office to Edward Jones, this being monies owed to his son Wilfred.  Also on the same date a further payment which is recorded as a War Gratuity of £3.0s.0d was also made to him.

He is also remembered on the North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales.

There is a Flintshire Roll of Honour card for Wilfred Jones at the County Archives Office, Hawarden, which was completed on 8 September 1919 by Maud Jones.
