Brookfield Sidney James

Sydney James Brookfield was born in 1896 . He was recorded in the census of 1901 living with his family at Warway (?) Cottage Tallarn Green. Head of the household was George Brookfield 44 an Agricultural Labourer. His wife Mary was 37. Their only child was Sidney J Brookfield who was 5 years old.

The next census of 1911 places the family in Tallarn Green. George was still an Agricultural Labourer. His wife of 16 years, mary was 36. She had given birth to one child who was living. That ‘child’ was Sidney who was then 15 and was assisting on a small holding.

UK soldiers who died in The Great War 1914-19, accessible on www.ancestry.co.uk confirms all the military details as above left. It adds that he enlisted in Overton and this source tells us he was Killed in Action. His medal index card also on Ancestry, lists his two medals.

The Register of Soldier’s Effects in which the army calculated what moneys were owed to deceased soldiers includes an entry for Sudney. His father George received a total of £24 .. 15sh .. 5d in two separate payments.
