Frank was born in 1888, in Overton.  He was recorded on the 1891 census, living with his family in Turning Street, Overton.  Head of the household was John Lloyd, a 31 year old Bricklayer.  His wife was Hannah who was 33. Their listed children were Maggie 5, Frank 3 and Bertha 1.

The next census of 1901 records the family still in Turning Street, Overton. John was 40 and still a bricklayer. Hannah was 43 and their listed children were Frank 13, Bertha 11, Emily 9, Ada F 6, and Nellie 1.

The 1911 census lists the family at School Lane, Overton.  Bricklayer John was then 50 and Hannah, his wife of 26 years was 54.  She had given birth to 6 children all of whom were still living.  The only child listed at home for the census was 11 year old Nellie.

Frank had  married Lydia (nee Smith) from Mexbro Yorkshire on the 17th November 1909, in St. Mary’s Church, Overton (Wrexham County Borough (Wrexham) C55/01/183).  The Witnesses were  P. leonard & M. Maude.

The 1911 census lists them living at Plough House, Willow St, Overton.  Frank was 23 and his wife Lydia was 30.  They had been married  for 1 year.  One child had been born to them, sadly the child had died.  Frank was a house painter At some point after 1911,  they moved  to Ivanhoe Cottage, Overton.

There is an index card for Frank Allen in the Flintshire Roll of Honour in The County Record office in Hawarden,  (Card Overton F 1).   Frank had served for 6 months when he was killed.  L. Allen who signed the card on the 18^th December 1919 tells us that Frank was missing from the 13^th November 1916 and  since presumed killed on that date.

UK Soldiers who died in The Great War 1914 -19, accessible on www.ancestry.co.uk includes an entry for Frank Allen. It confirms the regimental details at the top of this page and tells us tells us that he had been born in Ellesmere, Salop and  had enlisted in Overton, Flintshire.  (Typo error, states Hants, not Flintshire)

Frank’s Medal Index Card also on Ancestry,  list his medals and adds that he had another regimental number – 4424.

The UK, Army Registers of Soldiers’ Effects, 1901-1929 in which the army calculated what moneys were owed to deceased soldiers,  tells us that Frank’s sole Legatee was his wife Lydia, who was also his Executrix. She received £1 13s 6d on the 3^rd November 1917 and his War Gratuity of £3 on the 11^th October 1919.

Frank Allen left a Will.  In the England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966, 1973-1995:- Allen, Frank of Ivanhoe Cottage, Overton, Flintshire Private No. 54697 10^th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, died 13^th November 1916 in France.   Probate St. Asaph  4^th October to Lydia Allen, Widow.   Effects £306 11s 4d.
