John Thomas Evans was born in Caerwys, Flintshire, during 1896.

The census of 1901 recorded him living at Pen y Bryn, Tremeirchion with his family, at the home of his maternal grandparents, Thomas ( a Farmer) and Jane Evans. Listed in the household was married daughter Anne Thomas who was 28. Her husband was Thomas Evans a  31 year old ‘Ordinary Agricultural Labourer’. Their two listed children were John T who was 5 and Gwylim who was 2.

The 1911 Census tells us that the family lived at Pen-y-Bryn, Caerwys, Flintshire.  The head of was Thomas Evans aged 42, a Farmer.  His wife Ann Evans aged 38 and their 5 (five) children – John Thomas Evans aged 15, a Farm Worker, Gwilym Evans aged 12, Dinah Jane Evans aged 9, Muriel Evans aged 5 and Mair Eluned  Evans aged 3 months.  Ann’s mother, Jane Evans aged 78, a retired Farmer was also living with them.

John Thomas Evans enlisted at The Castle, Chester during 1916.

On 20 August 1917 a payment of £4.19s.11d was made by the War Office to Thomas Evans, this being monies owed to his son John.  On 23 October 1919, a further payment which is recorded as a War Gratuity was also made to him.

He is also remembered on the North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales.

There is a Flintshire Roll of Honour card for him at the County Archives Office, Hawarden, which was completed on 15 January 1920, by a Thomas Evans.
