A massive thank you to all our guests at our special Website Celebration Evening at The Beaufort Park Hotel last Friday night. It was a great pleasure to see you all and to share with you some of our Flintshire WW1 stories.
We were especially delighted and honoured to welcome Lord and Lady Barry Jones, Chairman of FCC Cllr Glenys Diskin and her Consort Cllr Allan Diskin, Members of Parliament David Hanson and Mark Tami, Welsh Assembly members Sandy Mewies and Mark Isherwood and Leader of FCC Mr Aaron Shotton.
Thanks must be recorded to all of those associated with www.flintshirewarmemorials.com. There are currently 24 people researching and working on the website. Most of them were present on Friday night. They are all volunteers and give of their time and energy to make this project work and the evening was very much about thanking and appreciating them.
Extra special thanks to those researchers who volunteered to stand up and tell their stories. For some it was a daunting prospect and they are all to be congratulated. (Celia Drew, Mavis Williams, Peter Kelsall, Keith Humphreys, Dave Healey, Peter Metcalfe and Andrew Moss). Mike Jones selected and read the poems – thanks to him.
It was a difficult evening to pitch and striking a balance between the poignancy of the stories and the celebrating and showcasing of the website was tricky. We wish to thank very much, the professional help that we had from Phyl Harries, Mags Harries and James Haggie who provided the music and who ensured the evening ran smoothly and that the tone was right.
We shall be posting some photographs of the evening on these News pages soon.
Eifion and Viv Williams
