We were contacted recently by Richard Evans who is one of the many researchers working on this website. He told us a lovely story which may well be of interest to others who have a relative buried in Windy Corner, Guards Cemetery in France.

Richard’s grandfather (Also Richard Evans) who is listed on the Rhyl memorial, is buried there and the 5th March this year was the centenary of his death. Richard was unable to visit the grave but very much wanted to mark the occasion so he contacted a Florist in Violaines which is about 6 kilometres from the cemetery.

Not only did the Florist place the flowers on the grave but she borrowed the local veterans’ standard from the Town Hall to create a backdrop to the photograph.

The Florist’s Shop is O Bouqueto, Rue de 11 Novembre, Violains 62138. The obliging owner is Patricia Boulet and her e mail address is obouqueto@orange.fr

There may well be others who would like to use this marvellous service. Here is a list of the other Flintshire men that we know of who are buried in Windy Corner, Guards Cemetery.

Robert Dale Bagillt

Griffith Piercy Sychdyn

John James Bramfield Flint

Arthur Emrys Evans, Mold

Samuel Welch Connah’s Quay

Harold Lynch Llanfynydd
