William John Price was born in Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales in 1881.

Nothing is known of his early life, but on 1 June 1910 he married Barbara Elizabeth Edwards.

The 1911 Census shows that the family lived at The Coach and Horses Public House in Chepstow, where William now aged 30 was the Licensed Victualler.  His wife Barbara was 32 years of age.

On Thursday 31 August 1916, William enlisted at Chepstow with the Royal Engineers.  He had previously served for five years in the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, South Wales Borderers.

The family at some stage moved to live in Rhyl, Flintshire, North Wales.

On 16 March 1917 William embarked at Devonport for Basra, Iraq and on Thursday 12 July 1917 he was admitted to the British General Hospital in Basra suffering from heatstroke. He died there some days later on 15 July 1917.

William is also remembered on a Remembrance Plaque at The Royal Alexandra Hospital, Marine Drive, Rhyl, Flintshire and on The North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, North Wales.

There is no Flintshire Roll of Honour Card for him at the County Archives Office, Hawarden.
