Owen Lloyd was born in Denbigh, Denbighshire, circa 1881.

Little is known of his early life, but he did at one time reside at 3 South Kinmel Street, Rhyl and at 32 Prince Edward Avenue, Vale Road, Rhyl.

He served in the British Army during the South African War.

The 1911 Census shows that he was now married to Mary Eliza and they lived at 13 Rose Terrace, Sandycroft, Flintshire.  Owen who was now 33 years of age was employed by the Sandycroft Foundry Company Limited as a Motor Attendant

It is believed that he enlisted with the Manchester Regiment at the outbreak of the First World War in 1914 and entered France with the Battalion on the 27 November 1915.

He died of Pneumonia on 3 July 1918 at Levenshulme Hospital Manchester and is buried in Rhyl Town Cemetery.

He is also remembered on The North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, North Wales and on a Remembrance Plaque at The Royal Alexandra Hospital, Marine Drive, Rhyl, Flintshire. Owen Lloyd is named on the Saltney Ferry Memorial. Follow the link to where more of his story is told.

There is a Flintshire Roll of Honour Card for him at the County Archives Office, Hawarden, Flintshire, which is dated 12 September 1919 and signed K Jones.
