Jones, John Owen

John Owen Jones was born in Rhyl, Flintshire, North Wales in 1890.

The 1901 Census shows that the family lived at Election Row, Rhuddlan, Flintshire.  The head of the family was Thomas Jones aged 44, who was employed as an Iron Moulder. His wife Mary Elizabeth Jones aged 38 and their six children – William E Jones aged 11, John Owen Jones aged 10, Lily Jones aged 9, Thomas Owen Jones aged 7, George Jones aged 5 and Annie M Jones aged 3 years.

Little is known of his early life, but in late 1916 he enlisted with 2nd/7th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers.

John is also remembered on a Remembrance Plaque at The Royal Alexandra Hospital, Marine Drive, Rhyl, Flintshire, The Rhuddlan War Memorial and his name appears on the North Wales Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, North Wales.

There is no Flintshire Roll of Honour card for him at the County Archives Office, Hawarden, Flintshire.
