Jackson, John Henry

John Henry Jackson was born in Conwy, North Wales in August 1880.

Nothing is known of his early life, but in March 1906 he married Mary Elizabeth Jones and they lived at 22 Chapel Street, Conwy.  They had three children – Catherine Elizabeth Jackson, born 29 October 1906, Mary Grace Jackson, born 9 December 1907 and Robert Jackson, born 24 December 1912.

On 15 April 1908, John enlisted with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers Territorial Force and was allocated Regimental Number 204.

The family later moved to Rhyl, Flintshire and lived at 39 Sisson Street, Rhyl.

On Wednesday 5 August 1914, John joined 5th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers and on Saturday 25 March 1916 embarked  HMT Ship Hunspill at Devonport with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force for Alexandria, arriving there on 5 April 1916.

John was promoted Lance Corporal on Monday 1 January 1917 and to Corporal on Wednesday 4 April 1917.

He is also remembered on a Remembrance Plaque at The Royal Alexandra Hospital, Marine Drive, Rhyl, Flintshire and on The North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, North Wales.

There is no Flintshire Roll of Honour card for him at the County Archives Office, Hawarden, Flintshire.
