George West (On the Flintshire Roll of Honour he is named as Louis St George West but so far we have not found this anywhere else).

He signed his attestation papers on 31st August 1914. His next of kin was named on his Casualty Report sheet as his mother Annie M West of 65 Ackeroyd St, Higher Openshaw, Manchester. His military history sheet records that he was based ‘at home’ from 31st Aug 1914 to 6th Nov 1915. He served in France from 7, November 1915 to 1st July 1916 – a total  service of 1 year and 308 days. His personal effects after his death consisted of 1 diary and 1 mirror. How sad is that?

The 1911 census finds George aged 16yrs living in Ackeroyd St, Higher Openshaw Manchester with his mother Annie  49 and with Eleanor West 15 whom we believe is Geoge’s sister. The three Wests are boarders at the home of George Ekins a fruiterer. Annie helps in the business.  The census form states that George had been born in Mold Flintshire. He was, in 1911, a clerk for the railway.

The person who provided the information for his Flintshire Roll of Honour Card was  Eleanor M West an Aunt. It is she that provided the name Louis St George. The address given is 3 Garden Terrace Mold.  She also completed the card for Percy West who also appears on the Mold Memorial and whom we believe was her brother.
