Kenneth Houghton Glover was born in Lancashire in1888. (Qtr Dec, Barton Lancs Vol 8c page 503).

He was recorded on the census of 1891 living with his family in Park Road, Newton in Makerfield, Lancs. Head of the household was Civil Engineer James Glover who was 32. His wife was Charlotte aged 35. Their listed children were Cicely 5, Winifred 3 and Kenneth 2. There was one servant.

Ten years on and the 1901 census records the family living in Newton Road, Lowton, Leigh Lancs. Apart from the fact that everyone was 10 years older, little had changed. Kenneth was 12. There was still one servant.

In the census of 1911 the family was living in Lowton House, Lowton in Lancashire. We learn from this census that James then 52 had been born in Liverpool and his wife of 26 years, Charlotte who was 55, hailed originally from London. Cicely was 25 and Winifred 23. They were both single. Kenneth was listed as a 22 year old student.

The military information I have been able to find so far, has come from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. He died in Whitwell Isycoed Flintshire (Sometimes  listed as being in Shropshire).  Also,  The Register of  Soldier’s Effects in which the army calculated what moneys were owed to deceased soldiers, includes an entry for him. It states that he died on the 8th December 1918 in Isycoed Park.  His widow Mary B received £14 ..1sh  ..2d  The fact that he died there seems to bthe only connection with Isycoed, Flintshire that exists. The cause of death according to the CWGC was Influenza. There are two addresses listed by the CWGC for Kenneth’s widow. One is Lawton House Lawton Newton Le Willows, Lancs, (his parents’ home) and the other is Elf Howe, Staveley, Westmoreland.

I have been unable to discover any references to medals or to his military service. There is no card for him in the Flintshire Roll of Honour at The County Record Office in Hawarden.
