On Thursday 9 March 1916, HMS Fauvette while on her way home from Girgenti, struck two mines which had been laid by U Boat UC7 off North Foreland and sank in four minutes. (Royal Navy War Records). Walter Littler was born in Greenfield, Flintshire during 1874.

The 1891 Census states that the family resided at Ivy Terrace, Bagillt Road, Greenfield, Flintshire at that time. The head of the family was Edward Littler, a 56 year old General Labourer. His wife Elizabeth was deceased. He had 7 children who were all living home, John Littler aged 34 a Coal Miner, Jane Littler aged 31 a House Keeper, Pearce Littler aged 25 a Coal Miner, Elina Littler aged 21 a Domestic Servant, Arthur Littler aged 20 a Corn Miller, Walter Littler aged 17 a Coal Miner and Eva Littler aged 14 an Apprentice Dressmaker.

He is also remembered on The North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales.
