I found him whilst looking in the book “Soldiers died in the Great War RWF Part 28” it gave this information:- 1st Bn. JONES, James Thomas,born Shotton, Flinsts. Enlisted Shotton. 53715. Pte Killed in action France & Flanders. 4th May 1917. (The Royal Welch Fusiliers Archives has a casualty list data base which says he was wounded on the 5th May 1915 and died that day).

I cannot find any Flintshire WW1 Index Card neither “Fallen” nor “Living” for James Thomas, as if all this research is right he would have only been 16 or 17 years old when he died, so he must have lied to get into the Army.   Bless him.

The UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919 about James Thomas Jones confirms his regimental information above and tells us that his birth place is Shotton, where he also enlisted.

British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920 about James T Jones does not tell us where his Theatre of War was nor when he entered it. (The RWF Archives recorded that he embarked for France on the 21st August 1916)

James Thomas Jones in the UK, Army Registers of Soldiers’ Effects, 1901-1929 tells us that the sole Legatee was his mother Hannah who was paid £12. 19s 3d on the 4th June 1918 and his War Gratuity of £4 on the 29th October 1919. – This opens up the possibility that we have the wrong soldier, or that a clerical error was made, as my research finds James Thomas’s mother was Mary Emma Jones.   This has now been confirmed by his Birth Certificate, he was the son of Samuel and Mary Emma Jones and their address was 17, Spring Terrace, Werpre, Connah’s Quay.    This is probably Spring Street.  Many thanks to the Flintshire Registry Office.
