Catherall, William Cecil

William Cecil Catherall was the son of Jonathan and Margaret Frazer Lindsay married in London in 1896. William Cecil was born 6 June 1897 and a sister Ann Catherine a year later. The mother Margaret died in 1901 and Jonathan married Margaret Ann Edwards in 1910.

William Cecil was educated at King’s School, Chester, and was a bank apprentice before the war. The family was at Hawkesbury in 1911. Father, Jonathon was secretary to a colliery company; William Cecil was 13, and his sister Ann Catherine 12.

William Cecil enlisted 29th November 1915 and was posted to The London Regiment (Artist’s Rifles). He was commissioned to the Northamptonshire Regiment, 24th March, 1917. He was 20 when he died in Egypt in 1917.

William Cecil was commemorated on the plaque at St. John’s Congregational Church and at the University of Nottingham.
