Parry, John Henry

John Henry was born in Toxteth Liverpool in about 1899. He was the son of John and Sarah Jane Parry. In 1911 the family was resident at 42 Webster St, Litherland with John Henry 12, William 11, Phoebe 3 and Gweneth 11 months. John Parry was from Port Dinorwic and an engineer’s rigger working with maritime engines. Sarah Jane was from Glamorgan. All the children were born in Liverpool.

In 1901 Sarah Jane, Catherine, John Henry and William Kimbeley were living at LLanbeblig, Carnarfon. (The father, John was not listed on the census form). Did he work away?

At some point after 1911,the family  moved to live in 94 Mold Road Buckley. The reason why has not been established.

UK Soldiers who Died in The Great War 1914 -19, accessible on www.ancestry.co.uk confirms the military details on the left of this page. It adds that he enlisted in Wrexham. This source tells us he died of wounds.

John Henry’s death was reported in newspapers.

Private John Parry, R.W.F., Mold-road, Buckley, has died of wounds. He was 20 years of age.

Private John Parry, Mold Road, Buckley, has died from wounds. He was 20 years of age.

Almost a month after John Henry’s death, his father John Parry died aged 47. (See grave inscription below).

From a grave at Bistre (NG37 a small white cross

“Nearer my God to Thee’. In loving memory of John Parry died Nov. 24th 1918 aged 47 years, also Sarah Jane his beloved wife died Nov 22nd 1928 age 53 years.

Also our eldest son Pte. John Henry Parry died of wounds in France Oct 21st 1918 age 20 years.

Also Robert Parry died Dec 2nd 1961 age 44 years. “In light eternal”. Also their daughter Gladys died Dec 23rd 1918 age 4 years.

Sarah Jane Parry lost a son, daughter and husband in the space of two months.
