Beckett, F S

The 1901 census tells us that the family were living at Kinmel Gardens House in the Parish of Bodelwyddan, Flintshire. The household consisted of Head, George Homer Beckett (born in Hawton, Northamptonshire) he was 32 years of age and employed as Head Gardener. His wife Sarah Anne was 33, born in Gretton Northamptonshire. Their three children were George William 9 yrs, Frank Sydney 7 yrs, and John Homer 11 months.

Ten years on, in 1911, the family was still at Kinmel Gardens House. There had been an addition to the family, Kathleen Beckett who was born at Kinmel, Abergele Flintshire and was 4 yrs of age.

Frank Sydney Beckett 17 yrs of age, was still living at home and was employed as a Joiner’s Apprentice. His brother George William Beckett was no longer living with the family and was listed on the 1911 census as residing at Bothe Keele Hall Gardens, Newcastle Staffordshire, employed as a gardener.

Flintshire Roll of Honour card in the Archives Office in Hawarden shows Frank Sydney Beckett’s period of service as 7 months, Frank enlisted  in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire on the 21st September 1914.
