Jones, John Probert

John Probert Jones was born in Bagillt, Flintshire during 1896.

The 1911 Census tells us that the family lived at Pen-y-Gob, Bagillt.   The head of the family was Alfred Henry Jones aged 39, who was employed as a Railway Platelayer.  His wife was Louisa Jones aged 37 and their 7 (seven) listed children  were Edward Henry Jones aged 17, a Cotton Spinner at Flint Textile Works.  Gertrude Jones aged 16, John Probert Jones aged 15 was a Bobbin Carrier.  He was also employed at the Textile Works.  Evelyn Jones aged 11, Fred Albert Jones aged 8, Louisa Jones aged 6 and Alfred Vernon Jones aged 3 years.

John arrived in France with the Battalion on Monday 27th September 1915 and was Killed in Action at Ypres, Belgium on Tuesday 2nd March 1916, aged 20 years. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Menin Gate in Ypres.

He is also remembered on the North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales.

There is no Flintshire Roll of Honour Card for him at the County Archives Office, Hawarden.   Details of his medals were obtained from Ancestry.co.uk
