This weekend (10th to the 13th April) a coach full of people from Flintshire will be heading for the great War battlefields around Ypres and on the Somme. The core of the group will be made up of many of the researchers who work hard on telling the stories of those named on Flintshire’s WW1 memorials on this website. The rest of the party will be made up of their partners, friends and family.
We will locate the graves of as many of the Flintshire men as we can, (we have lists!). At the foot of each grave we will place one of the remembrance crosses pictured above. We have had them printed in waterproof ink with the website address and logo. We’re hoping that in the coming months, people (possibly relatives of the soldiers) who visit the graves after us will find the cross and check out the website. With luck we will get even more information to add to the stories.
We will be laying 2 special wreaths, one at the new wonderful Welsh Memorial in Langemark near Ypres and the other at the Menin Gate as part of the nightly ceremony.
We will try to post news pictures as we travel – wifi permitting. If we can’t we’ll post them when we return. Watch this space.
