Evanson, Walter

Walter Evanson was born in 1894. He was recorded on the census of 1901 living with his family at 4 Gig Lane, Whitchurch Shropshire. Head of the household was Harry Evanson, 29 a Railway Plate Layer who had been born in Wem.. His wife was 29 year old Mary Ann Evanson who had been born in Bronington. Their listed children all born in Whitchurch, were Anne 3, Frank 2 and Walter Clive who was 6.

The 1911 census found Walter living at Green Shop, Llangedwyn, Oswestry. Head of the household was 80 year old widow Jane Vaughan, a Grocer and Farmer. There were three ‘servants’ in the household. David Jones was 41 and was Farm Bailiff. Sarah Jane Hughes 17, was a General Servant. Walter Evanson, 17 was a Farm Labourer who had been born in Whitchurch.

UK Soldiers Who Died in The Great War 1914 to 19 accessible on www.ancestry.co.uk confirms all the regimental details at the top of this page and adds that he enlisted in Chester. This source tells us that he Died of Wounds. His Medal index card also on ancestry lists his two medals.

The Register of Soldier’s effects  in which the army calculated monies owed to deceased soldiers, tells us that Walter was owed £22..6s..10d which was paid to Walter’s Mother, Mrs Mary – his sole Legatee.
