Hewitt, Thomas G

Thomas George Hewitt was born in Mynydd Isa in 1886. So far we have not identified him on a census return.

He  married Annie Bateman from Sychdyn in 1911. (Qtr September 1911, District Holywell, Vol 11b, page 340). Their daughter Florence was born on Christmas Day in 1911. Tragically Annie collapsed and died whilst travelling on a tram in Liverpool  (her sister lived in Liverpool), on 17th May 1913. She was just 26 years old. Florence was 2 and a half years old. Annie was buried in Northop Churchyard.

(His brother lived in Doncaster). This source tells us he was killed in action. His Medal Index Card also on Ancestry, lists his medals and states that he entered his first theatre of war on 13th April 1915 in France.

His sister Margaret Jones, took care of Florence.

The Register of Soldier’s Effects in which the army calculated monies owed to deceased soldiers, lists Thomas Hewitt and states that he was killed in action in Belgium. The total sum of £35..10sh..3d was paid to his child Florence.
