Evans, Arthur J.

I have no information on this soldier except to say that his name was on the Church War Memorial Plaque in St. Andrew’s Church in Garden City, he is also remembered on the St. Ethelwold’s Church, Shotton, but St. Andrews was part of this Church at the time, so he must have been a parishioner for his name to be put forward.   Any help would be gratefully received.   I am researching the soldier with the above Regtl. No. at the moment, he enlisted into the Canadian Expeditionary Force in New York and Montreal, but lived in New Haven, Conn. U.S.A.

I wrote to the Government of Canada / Gouvernement du Canada, http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca and had a reply. : – (Excerpts from the email)

Dear Mavis Williams,

Thank you for your inquiry of October 18, 2015, concerning Joseph Arthur Evans. First, I wish to advise you that I am unable to identify him as having served with the Canadian Forces during the First World War. For you convenience, I have included in this email some tips that may guide you throughout your research.

References to the service files of those who served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force can be found in our Soldiers of the First World War 1914-1918 database on our website at:

www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/first-world-war/first-world-war-1914-1918-cef/Pages/canadian-expeditionary-force.aspx

Furthermore, when Veterans Affairs was notified of the death of a First World War veteran, a death card was created and those cards are now in the custody of Library and Archives Canada. A search of that collection produced no reference to Joseph Arthur Evans, regimental number 554117 or 320080.

According to the information you have provided, there is a possibility that Joseph Arthur Evans may have served in the British Forces. Records relating to the service of members of the British Forces are in the custody of the National Archives in England:

www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person%5Cdefault.htm

Moreover, since Joseph Arthur Evans enlisted in New York, the United States National Archives may be in possession of records that may be relevant to your search.http://www.archives.gov/veterans/

So I back to square 1, if anyone has any information on who Arthur J. Evans was and can just give a clue, I would be very grateful.
