The Commonwealth War Graves Commission additional Information which states the Christopher is the son of James and Ruth Price, of 5, Bridge Terrace, Stone Bridge, Saltney, Chester; husband of the late Emily Mary Price.
However during me research, I do not believe that Ruth was his mother, as on the 1901 census James, his father was a widow and Christopher was born circa 1892 with the name on the birth Certificate of just Llewelyn (sic) (Chester 8a 420), of course the certificate would have to be purchased for it to be confirmed or denied.
His first wife and the mother of Christopher Lewellyn is a mystery, so any help would be appreciated. I do think though that his wife may have been Mary Hannah Crawford as a James Price and a Mary Hannah Crawford married at St. Mary’s Church, Chester in 1885, but again we will need to see the certificate to confirm. Llewelyn. 8, born as all the children were in Saltney, Flintshire, is first seen on the 1901 census, living at 37, Ewart Street, Saltney, Chester with his widowed father James, 38, a Ry. Joint Maker in Shed (R.G Labourer) born in Glascombe, Radnorshire. James’s other children were John J., 7, Elizabeth Hannah H., 5, Elsie Gwendoline, 4 and Lily, 2.
The 1911 census gives us the name of James’s new wife, Ruth Amelia and I believe that James remarried in the September Quarter of 1901, after the census to Ruth Piercy, the marriage was registered at Chester (Vol 8a, Page 832).
They were living at 5, Bridge Terrace, Stone-Bridge, Saltney, Flintshire (4 rooms), James, 48, an Iron Dresser and his new wife Ruth Amelia, 43, who had been born in Altringham, Cheshire, do not say how long they had been married, but James states that 9 children had been born and sadly 2 had died, these 2 may have been the children that he added at the bottom of the list, a Thomas Henry Price, age 9 week and a daughter Ruth Amelia Price age 15 months, these 2 children’s names were crossed off the census by the enumerator. The list of living children were Christopher Llewellyn, 18 an Apprentice to an Iron Moulder, John James, 17, a Steam Hammer Driver, Elizabeth, 15, a Tobacco Larger (?)(sic) Tobacco Manufactory, Elsie Gwendiline (sic), 14, Lily 12, and James, 10 all of whom were in school. There seems to be a missing child as well to make the seven.
Christopher Llewellyn Price in the UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919 confirms his regimental details and tells us that he was born and enlisted in Chester.
Christopher L Price in the British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920 tells us that his first Theatre of War was France and he entered it on the 14th May 1915. This also tells us that he had other Regimental numbers, 1392 and 15500. Any help with why he had 2 regimental numbers would be appreciated.
I cannot find any Army Service Papers for him, they may have been lost in WW2 in the bombings in London.
While he was on leave one day in the December Quarter of 1916, he married Emily Mary Gibson at All Saints Church in Hoole. (Cheshire West CE31/3/82). Emily Mary was to suffer the grief of his death and then she too was to die at the age of 25, in the June Quarter of 1921 and her death is registered in Chester. (Vol 8a Page 432).
However, he was loved as someone put his name forward to be remembered.
