Povah, Thomas

Thomas Povah was born in Rhyl, Flintshire in 1898.

The 1911 Census shows that the family lived at 30 Victoria Road, Rhyl, Flintshire, North Wales. The head of the family was Thomas Povah aged 44, a House Painter.  His wife Annie Povah (nee Salt) aged 42 and their 7 (seven) children – Myfanwy Povah aged 17, a Domestic Servant, Edwin Povah aged 15, a Grocer’s Errand Boy, Thomas Povah aged 13, Janet Povah aged 12, Jessie Povah aged 10, Annie Povah aged 7 and Bella Povah aged 5 years.

Thomas enlisted with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers at the Recruitment Centre, Flint, Flintshire.

Bouzincourt Ridge Cemetery, Albert, Somme, France.

On 24 September 1918, a payment of £20. 17s. 0d. was made by the War Office to Mrs Annie Povah, being monies owed to her son Thomas.  On 29 March 1920, a further payment which is recorded as a War Gratuity of £17. 10s. 0d. was also made to her.

Thomas is also remembered on a Remembrance Plaque at The Royal Alexandra Hospital, Marine Drive, Rhyl, Flintshire and the North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, North Wales.

There is a Flintshire Roll of Honour Card for him at the County Archives Office, Hawarden, Flintshire, which was completed on 9 September 1919 by a R. Jones.
