Frederick Williams is one of 3 brothers who died in the conflict, the others were William & Joseph Williams.  The family history before the war is the same for all three brothers , please follow the link to William’s story to read it.

UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919  accessible on www.ancestry.co.uk confirms Frederick’s regimental information and also tells us that he was born and enlisted in Hawarden. His medal card also on ‘Ancestry’ details his medals.

Frederick married Mary Hall in 1914 in a Civil Marriage. He died 2 years later. There were at least two children born and two died. The family gravestone in the churchyard at St Deniol’s in Hawarden tells the heartbreaking story.

In Loving memory of Albert dearly Beloved son of Robert & Mary Hall,
died and buried in Brooklyn, New York April 4th 1925 aged 23 years.

Also Herbert their son died in infancy.
Also Sapper Fred Williams beloved Husband of Mary Williams,died and buried France Oct 16th 1916 age 26 years.  

 Also Fredie (sic)their son died March 1st 1920 aged 5 years.  Also Emily their daughter died in infancy.

There are (unusually) two index cards for Frederick Williams in The Flintshire Roll of Honour at The County Record Office in Hawarden.  One is filed with the Sandycroft cards and the other with Hawarden’s.

(Card Sandycroft F11)  Williams, Frederick. The address given is Moor Lane, His regimental details were confirmed. He served for 6 months until he was Killed in action on the 16th October 1916. The card was signed 1st October 1919 by E, Williams.  ( This could be Emily Williams, Frederick’s Mother, she signed 2 cards for her sons that day).

(Card Hawarden F39)  Williams, Frederick. The address given is  Brook Cottage, Hawarden. The regimental details are confirmed and this card gives the (wrong)  death date as  16th September 1916. This card was neither signed nor dated.
