Oliver Jones was born in Prescot, Lancashire during 1887.  It is not known why he was born in Lancashire.  All other members of the family were born and lived in Greenfield, Flintshire.

The family lived in Mostyn Road, Greenfield, Flintshire.  The head of the family was Theofilus Jones, who was employed at the Bettisfield Colliery as a Coal Miner.  His wife Mary Elizabeth Jones (nee Williams) and their three children – Oliver Jones, Morgan Jones and Edith Jones.

Oliver Jones attended the local elementary school and upon leaving at the age of 14 years obtained employment in a Grocers Shop as a Shop Assistant.  He eventually became a Baker.

On 2 March 1915, single and aged 28 years he enlisted as a Private No. 1065 with 25th Battalion, Montgomeryshire and Welsh Horse Yeomanry before being transferred to the Royal Welsh Fusiliers as Private No. 355815. On enlistment he is described as 5’5″ tall, Chest Measurement 35″, Expansion 2″.  His physical development was described as good and according to the Recruitment Officer and Medical Officer he was fit for Military Service.  On 8 October 1915 he arrived in the Balkans Theatre of War at Gallipoli and on 25 September 1916 he was posted to Palestine.

He is also remembered on The North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales.
