Joseph Edwards was born in Holywell, Flintshire during 1885.

The 1901 Census tells us that the family lived in a house ‘by the Copper Works’, Greenfield, Flintshire.  The head of the family was Edward Edwards aged 40, who was employed as a General Labourer.  His wife Elizabeth Edwards aged 47 and their 4 (four) children – Joseph Edwards aged 16, a General Labourer, William Edwards aged 15, a Carpenters Apprentice, John Edward Edwards aged 10 and Thomas Edwards aged 5 years.

By 1911 the family had moved to 2 Dykins Row, Greenfield, Flintshire.  Edward Edwards was now 50 and employed as a Bricklayers Labourer.  Joseph Edwards aged 21 was a Coal Delivery Man, William Edwards aged 20, a Grocers Assistant and Thomas Edwards aged 15, a Bottle Washing Assistant, who was employed at W. Hall (Mineral Water Works), Greenfield Road, Holywell, Flintshire.

He is also remembered on the North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales.
