Humphreys, John H

There was no Flintshire WW1 Index Card for him, neither “Living”, nor “Fallen”, which may have given more details.

UK soldiers who died in the Great War 1914 -19, accessible on www.ancestry.co.uk confirms the regimental information above and adds that he was born Sedgley, Staffordshire and enlisted in Shotton.

John’s medal card also accessible on ancestry, records his medal details and also tells us that his first theatre of war was France and that he entered it on 27th September 1915.

John was mentioned in the book ”  Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914 – 1918 Royal Welsh Fusiliers    Volume 28″ – 10th Bn Humphries, John, Born Sedgley, Staffordshire.   Enliisted Shotton, Residence Bilston. 15472.  Pte. Killed in action France & Flanders 21st December 1915.

John Humphries in the UK, Army Registers of Soldiers’ Effects, 1901-1929 gives us a clue to his family as the sole Legatee was his mother Sarah Ann who was paid £3. 1s 7d on the 19th February 1916 and his War Gratuity of £5. 0s 0d on the 25th July 1919.

Any help would be gratefully received about this soldier’s life and family, I cannot find him on the 1911 census here in Deeside, so I can only presume he came after the 1911 census.
