William Williams was born in Caerwys, Flintshire during 1889.   His parents were William and Sarah Williams.  William (Senior) died in 1890.

During early 1901 the family lived at Wynne Cottage, Afonwen, Flintshire.  The head of the family was Sarah Williams aged 46, who was employed as a Rag Sorter in Afonwen Paper Mill.  She had three children – Joseph Williams aged 16, a Farm Labourer.  Mary Ellen Williams aged 14 and William Williams aged 12.

The 1911 Census shows that the family had moved and now lived at 2 Jocelyn Terrace, Afonwen.  Sarah was still employed at the Paper Mill, but was now a Mill Hand.  Joseph Williams was a Labourer in the local Cement Works, Mary Ellen Williams was also employed in Afonwen Paper Mill as a Mill Hand and William Williams was an Assistant Butcher in Caerwys.

William enlisted as a Private in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers at the Drill Hall, Halkyn Street, Holywell, Flintshire on 17 March 1916.  He served in France and was killed in action on Sunday 9 June 1918 during the Battle of Ancre.

He is also remembered on the North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales.

There is a Flintshire Roll of Honour card for him at the County Archives Office, Hawarden, which was completed by his mother, Sarah Williams on 14 November 1919.
