Wilfred Wilcock was the son of Charles and Annie Wilcock, 13 Ewloe Place, and husband of Mary Elizabeth Wilcock (who later remarried and became Mary Elizabeth Bellis) of Bellis of Stone Row, Hawarden.

Charles Wilcock married Annie Jones at Buckley St. Matthews in 1889. Wilfred was their first known child, born in about 1892. The 1911 census reveals that they they had 9 children: Wilfred  born 1892, Walter 1893, William 1895, James 1896, Elsie Maud 1897, Harry Warlow 1899, Wallace 1900, Norman 1904 and Anne 1907. William died in 1901. Charles Wilcock died in 1913. The family is remembered at St Matthew’s Churchyard (grave D767):

In Loving Memory of CHARLES beloved husband of ANNE WILCOCK Ewloe Place. who died March 13th 1913 aged 48 years ” Kept by the power of God”. Also WILLIAM EWART the beloved son of the above who died Nov. 8th 1901 aged 6 years. Also the above ANNIE WILCOCK who died March 14th 1955 aged 87 years ” At Rest”.

Wilfred was a coal miner. He married Mary Elizabeth Parish in 1916 (recorded as Charles W). Mary E Wilcock (Parish) married Edward Bellis in 1921.

Wilfred’s death was announced in the County Herald, August, 1917

The sad news has been received by Mrs. Wilcock of Moor’s Lane, Buckley that her husband Private W. Wilcock has been killed in action. The deceased soldier joined the forces in November 1914. He was in training at various places in the country, but had not been at the front nine or ten weeks when his death occurred. He was a son of the late Mr. C. Wilcock of Ewloe Place, Buckley. Much sympathy is felt for his young widow in her bereavement.
