Little is known at this time about William Williams, other than was the son of Henry Williams and the late Mary Williams (nee Hughes) and lived at 5 Victoria Row, Bagiilt, Flintshire.He had been a Merchant Seaman for some 3 years 6 months.  ( Details obtained from his Roll of Honour Card).

On Wednesday 22nd May 1918 William Williams was a Seaman on board SS Cargo Ship Red Rose, travelling from Littlehampton to Le Harve with a cargo of Government Stores, when it was struck by a torpedo from German Submarine UB-57, commanded by Oberleutnant Johannes Lohs. William’s body was found by French fisherman some time later and he was buried locally.

William Williams is also remembered on the North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales.

There is a Flintshire Roll of Honour Card for him at the County Archives Office, Hawarden, which had been completed by a John Williams.
