Evans, William Edward

William Edward Evans was born in Bagillt, Flintshire during 1894.

The 1911 Census states that the family resided at 1 Pierces Row, Bagillt.   The head of the family was Edward Evans aged 51, who was employed in the Bagillt Lead Works as a Lead Carter.   His wife Elizabeth Evans aged 43 and their two children – William Edward Evans aged 17, a Coal Miner and Johnny Evans aged 13.

William’s funeral was reported in the County Herald which read: On Saturday afternoon the funeral of the late Private William Edward Evans took place. A large number of mourners assembled at the house in Pierce’s Row, West End, Bagillt.  The bearers were the soldiers who were on leave. The Reverend D.Meurig Jones (Welsh Wesleyan) conducted the service at the house and also at the graveside. The deceased leaves a father and mother, and a brother, who is with the military forces abroad, and much sympathy is expressed in respect of their bereavement.  Mr Arthur Jones, Manchester House, kindly conducted the arrangements of the funeral.

He is also remembered on The North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch, Deiniol Road, Bangor, North Wales.
