Date and Circumstances of Death Killed in France 12th April 1918 aged 18.

Biographical Details Known His Commonwealth War Grave Certificate tells us he was the son of Thomas and Mary Hammersley of 36 Alun Terrace,Mold. We have been unable to trace Edward's army records or any listing on the 1911 census. Army pension records have, however, informed us that Thomas, Edward's father, himself enlisted 4 months after his son's death. This record gives us some family history -

Thomas was 47 years old on 29th August 1918 when he signed up to the ASC (Supply) with the regimental number 439664
His next of Kin was Mary Hammersley nee Matthews. They had married in the Free Church Mold 1888.
His children were Josiah b 1904, Thomas John b1905, Mary b 1907, Esther b 1909, Arthur b 1915. As Edward was born in 1900 we can deduce that he was their eldest son.

Thomas was demobbed on the 19th February 1919 because of arthritis and he was awarded a pension. It was Thomas that signed Edward's Flintshire Roll of Honour Card.
