Date and Circumstances of Death Died at Smyrna, Turkey, 7th October 1918 when he was a prisoner of war
Biographical Details Known He was born in 1895 to parents David and Catherine Griffiths. He had three sisters, Elizabeth, Megan and Catherine. There are a number of addresses associated with this family. In January 1915 on his attestation papers his address is given as Wylfa Hill, Mold.
Throughout his time with the regiment there were many interuptions to his service because of health concerns and he spent time in hospitals with dysentery, tonsilitis, infections and appendicitis - he refused to have an operation. In July 1915 he was posted to Egypt and in November 1916 he was attached to the No 5 Coy Imperial Camel Corps. After illness he was returned to the Camel Corps in August 1917 and was reported missing on the 29th October 1917. He was next reported as a Prisoner of War in November 1917. He died at Smyrna on the 7th October 1918 but the cause of death was never recorded.
After his death in July 1919 and then later in January 1920 William's parents had communications with the army and their address was 8 Cunliffe St Mold.
Mr Griffiths gave 72 Wrexham street as his address in november 1920.

There are three William Griffiths on the Mold memorial.We cannot be certain but we think that the first two are one and the same person ie he was named twice.
