Biographical Details Known The 1891 census tells us that Alfred was 4 years old and he lived in Halkyn with his parents, John 29 a Police Constable and his mother Mary 29 yrs.  He had a sister Mary Lizzie 3 yrs and a brother Thomas R who was 1 yr.  The census informs us that Alfred had been born in Mold.

By the 1911 census the family had moved to the police station in Caergwrle where the father John was now a Police Sergeant. Alfred was 14 and a grocer's assistant and his brother and sister were in school.

NB. After the war the person who provided the information for the Flintshire Roll of Honour card was father, John Whitead who was then an Inspector of police at Queensferry
