Date and Circumstances of Death Died of blackwater fever whilst serving in East Africa age 26.
Biographical Details Known The 1901 census finds Henry aged 9 living with his family in Pontybodkin near Mold. his father George Henry 40, was a brickmaker. His mother was Mary Ellen - known as Nellie and his siblings were Alice 13, Helena 12, Dorothy 8, Edith 6 and Jennie 3.
In 1911 the family was living in 5 Albert Street, Leeswood near Mold but Henry was not there.His father was now a colliery fitter and his mother was 47. The following children were living at home
- Helena 22 a schoolteacher, Jennie 13, George William 9, Charles Arthur 6, Herbert was a 2 year old grandson.
We have traced Henry in 1911 where he was a visitor at the home of a 55 year old widow -Emma Georgiana Johnston who lived at Richmond Place, Chester. She lived alone apart from two servants Jane Jones was 35 and originally from Pontblyddyn near Mold and the other was Winifred Jones 46, a cook originally from Llanferres near Mold
Henry's Army Service Records still exists and tells us that he signed his attestation papers on 18th October 1915. He gives his address as 2 Price St, Bury Lancs . He lists his trade as 'Driver' and the army decided to use this skill in the Army Service Corps but first they wanted him to pass a driving test which he did on 13th December 1915.
He died at 3.15pm on 26th November 1916 at No 19 stationary Hospital Korogwe, East Africa from Blackwater fever.
